What is an APL?
An APL is the defined fiber termination point at the building. It separates the operator network from in-building infrastructure and makes the connection documented, maintainable and clearly addressable.
Role in FTTH building access
In FTTH networks the APL is located in network layer 4. It receives incoming fiber, organizes fibers and provides the transition to customer outlets or in-house cabling.
APL, closure and customer outlet
A closure protects splice points in the distribution network, the APL terminates the building connection, and the customer outlet is located at the subscriber premises.
